Description

Nunlands Farm, incorporating Nunlands House, is a largely later 18th-century house with subsequent additions and alterations. The main house is a symmetrical, two-storey, five-bay, rectangular building, accompanied by a lower, recessed single-storey range to one side, and a modern conservatory set at an angle to the front. The exterior is constructed of harl-pointed sandstone rubble with tooled sandstone dressings, although the rear is rendered. A base course and quoins are present, along with plain margins (rendered in places), and projecting cills. Several ancillary buildings are located on the west and north sides.

The south (entrance) elevation features a stepped approach to a central, two-leaf boarded timber door, surmounted by a shallow, flush pediment. Single windows are positioned in the remaining ground floor bays and all bays at the first floor level. A single-storey wing is recessed to the left, with an off-centre lean-to conservatory to the right. A lower wing extends to the outer left, with a single window in its centre.

The east (side) elevation displays a gable end with a single ground floor window to the left and a single attic light slightly offset to the centre.

The north (rear) elevation has a stair window at its centre. Steps lead to a timber panelled door, offset to the right of centre. Single windows are arranged within segmental-arched openings at ground level, with single windows at the first floor level in all bays. A single-storey, two-bay wing adjoins the right side, featuring single windows in segmental-arched openings. A lower wing is recessed to the outer right, containing a boarded timber door to the left and a single window to the right.

The west (side) elevation presents a gable end with an attic window offset to the right. A projecting single-storey range is adjoined to the left, with a lean-to conservatory to the right. Plate glass timber sash and case windows are found on the front elevation, while the rear windows are timber sash and case with 12 panes of glazing. The main block is covered by a grey slate roof, with stone-coped skews and scrolled skewputts facing forward. The single-storey range has a modern pantile roof.

The interior of the main house was uninspected in 1999.

Various single-storey, rubble-built ancillary structures are present to the west, with tooled rubble dressings and boarded timber doors, and slate or pantiled roofs (some sections of corrugated iron). The interiors were also uninspected in 1999. A single-storey, M-gabled garage block is situated to the north, with a gabled addition to one side and part-glazed, boarded timber folding doors.

Rubble-coped rubble boundary walls partially enclose the site, alongside squat sandstone gatepiers with spearheaded iron gates leading south. Coped quadrant walls flank the entrance to the east, accompanied by a two-leaf timber vehicular gate.
