Description
West Flemington Farmhouse is an 18th-century building with later additions and alterations. It is a symmetrical, 2-storey, 3-bay farmhouse that features a lower 2-storey wing at the rear, creating a near L-plan, along with further single-storey additions to the side. The front and sides are finished in whitewashed harl, while the rear has predominantly whitewashed render. The side additions have plain harl, and there are cream sandstone dressings, some of which are also whitewashed. The farmhouse has a moulded eaves course and droved quoin strips.
On the west (entrance) elevation, the main block has a centrally located timber panelled door at ground level, topped by a round-arched fanlight with intersecting tracery and narrow sidelights, all within a keystoned Venetian surround. There are Venetian windows at ground level in the flanking bays, featuring intersecting-traceried upper sections and narrow sidelights, while the first floor has single windows in all bays. To the right, there is a single-storey range that is recessed, with a modern window offset to the right of centre. A further single-storey addition is located to the outer right, featuring a square-headed opening offset to the left.
The south (side) elevation includes a single-storey gabled wing projecting to the outer left, which has various additions to the front. The main block is set behind this wing, with single windows in the gabled range to the left and in the lower, 2-bay wing to the right.
The east (rear) elevation shows a blind elevation to the gabled wing projecting at the centre, with an irregularly fenestrated block recessed to the right. There are single-storey additions recessed to the left of centre, which include a lean-to porch in the re-entrant angle.
On the north (side) elevation, there is a gabled block to the right with single windows on both floors and a small attic light at the centre. The lower wing is recessed to the left and has a single window on the first floor.
The windows are timber sash and case with plate glass, featuring 4-, 6-, and 12-pane glazing, although some modern windows are present. The roofs are covered with grey slate and have stone-coped skews and moulded skewputts. The apex stacks are brick-built with cornices, and there are various circular cans. The property also has cast-iron rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen in 1999.
The garden walls consist of harl-pointed rubble walls that partially enclose the site. There is a low, coped curved wall at the front, complemented by hooped iron railings and a pedestrian gate.
