Description
North Bridge in Hawick was built by John and Thomas Smith of Darnick in 1832 and widened in 1882. The bridge features two segmental arches that span the River Teviot, with a central panelled pilaster above a curved 'beehive' cutwater. It is constructed from yellow sandstone, with a bull-faced base and polished ashlar voussoirs, pilaster, and parapet, while the rest of the structure is squared. There is a band course and a chamfered ashlar cope on the parapet.
