Description

24 Market Place in Lauder is a late 18th or early 19th century terrace with later alterations. It consists of a two-storey and attic structure featuring one single-fronted cottage and one double-fronted cottage, along with a slightly later three-bay cottage. The exterior is harled with painted stone dressing on the principal north elevation, which has vertical margins at the edges of the original terrace on the east side. The east gable end is coped, and the north pitch of the west end of the original block is visible.

On the north elevation, the original terrace is to the left. Number 24 is double-fronted with a central entrance that has a panelled timber door and a shallow rectangular fanlight, flanked by windows on each floor. Number 22 is single-fronted with an entrance to the left, featuring a replacement timber door and a window above to the left, along with a window on both the ground and first floors to the right. Number 20, to the right, has an entrance to the left with a part-glazed replacement door, a window above to the left, and windows on both floors across two bays to the right.

The south elevation includes a small single-storey lean-to addition to number 24, with an inserted window at the centre of the first floor. The first-floor windows of number 22 are positioned higher than those of number 24. An alteration on the right side of the ground floor features an entrance with an adjoining window, and there is an inserted gabled dormer to the left of the attic. Number 20 is set back slightly, with a gabled wing to the left.

The east elevation has a small attic window in the gable end of number 24. The buildings mainly feature two-pane timber sash and case windows, with grey slate roofs. There are harled gablehead stacks at either end of the original block, a harled ridge stack to the east of number 20, and a harled gablehead stack on the rear wing, all with round cans.

The interiors have not been inspected since 1998.
