Description
The gateway to the stable courtyard at Cranshaws Farm was built in the late 19th century and commissioned by Andrew Smith. It features a pedimented design with an embossed anagram that provides access to the stable courtyard. The gateway is mainly constructed from polished red sandstone, with some parts lightly droved, and has tooled red sandstone on the sides. At the ground level, there is a round-arched, roll-moulded opening, with a rectangular panel above it that reads, "ALL CAN LEARN ON THIS GATEWAY WHEN EDWARD WAS CROWNED KING." The structure is topped with a cornice that has ball finials on either side of a broken pediment. The decorative tympanum displays the letters "A S...I F L" alongside a coat of arms, with floral and foliate details below it, and is crowned by a pyramidal finial. The gateway includes studded two-leaf timber yett-style gates with wrought-iron fittings. A pal stone is present on the left side, while the right side is missing.
