Inner Eastern Cottage, Blackadder West

Inner Eastern Cottage, Blackadder West, dates from 1836 and has undergone later alterations. It is a single-storey building with an attic, consisting of a 9-bay row of symmetrical farm workers' cottages. The exterior features harl-pointed squared and snecked whinstone, complemented by droved sandstone ashlar dressings. The door openings have stop-chamfered margins.

On the southeast elevation, there is a round-arched niche with a deep-set window, and the date is carved on the keystone. Each adjacent inner bay has a boarded door, while the penultimate and inner adjacent bays feature timber mullioned bipartite windows. Each outer bay also has a boarded door.

The northwest elevation includes a round-arched recess with a window roughly at the center, flanked by two windows on the left and one on the right. There is a window in each outer bay.

The cottages have 4-pane timber sash and case windows where they still exist. The roof is slate piended, with truncated sandstone stacks at the center and above each cottage. There are brick gabled dormer heads at the center and above each bipartite window.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1996.
