Description
Cheeklaw is an early 19th-century farmhouse that has undergone later alterations and additions. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with a steading to the north, a single-storey projection to the east, and a later glazed lean-to addition to the west. The south elevation is harled with ashlar dressings, while the other elevations and the eastern projection are finished in harl-pointed rubble with stugged ashlar dressings.
On the south elevation, there is a deep-set door at the center, featuring an upper half that is border-glazed and a rectangular plate glass fanlight above. A window is located on the first floor above the door, and there are windows in each storey of the flanking bays, including a later bipartite window at the ground level of the left bay. To the outer left of the eastern projection, there is a modern door with a glazed upper section.
The north elevation of the single-storey projection is five bays wide and serves as a gig house and stable. It features a glazed and vented window at the center, a boarded door with a three-pane rectangular fanlight above in the bay to the left of center, a segmental-arched opening with a boarded door to the outer left, a window in the bay right of center, and a door to the outer right.
The windows throughout include 12-pane timber sash and case designs, with 4-pane timber sash and case windows in the bipartite window on the south elevation. The roof is slate, with brick wallhead stacks on the east and west sides.
Inside, there is a timber banister that dates from 1995. Additionally, there are gatepiers located to the east of the rear of the house, which are square-planned and topped with pyramidal coping.
