Description

2 Marchmont Estate Cottages, built around 1900 with later additions and alterations, are a mirrored pair of two-storey, three-bay gabled cottages that together form a symmetrical six-bay block. There are flat-roofed, single-storey garage additions on the outer left and right, as well as single-storey additions at the rear. The front is constructed of squared and snecked stugged red sandstone, with cream sandstone dressings, while the sides and rear are made of harl-pointed rubble. The building features stugged quoins and stugged long and short surrounds to lightly droved, stop-chamfered openings, with sandstone mullions on the bipartite windows and projecting cills. The rear additions are dry-dashed.

On the southwest (entrance) elevation, there is a two-bay gabled range at the center with bipartite windows in both bays on both floors, with the upper windows breaking the eaves. Boarded timber doors are located in the bays to the right and left, each with 2-pane fanlights. There are also bipartite windows in both floors of the outer right and left bays, with gabled upper windows that break the eaves.

The northeast (rear) elevation features a flat-roofed addition to the left and a lean-to addition to the right. The front has lower 4-pane upper glazing in timber sash and case windows, while some modern windows are present at the rear, along with rooflights. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has stone ridging and timber bargeboards. The building includes cast-iron rainwater goods and has corniced, brick-built ridge and apex stacks with various circular cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1998.
