Description

Eccles Mains Farmhouse, located on Main Street in Eccles, dates from around 1800 and has undergone later additions and alterations. This two-storey, three-bay farmhouse features a piended porch at the front and a two-storey wing at the rear, creating a near L-plan. There are also single-storey, lean-to additions on the side. The front is constructed of cream sandstone rubble, while the southwest and northwest elevations are harled, and the northeast elevation is rendered. The single-storey additions are painted render with predominantly painted margins. The front displays droved rubble quoins, droved long and short surrounds to openings, and flush cills.

On the southeast (entrance) elevation, there is a single-storey piended porch with border-glazed stained glass panels at the center and a part-glazed timber panelled door to the left. A single window is aligned at the first floor, with additional single windows in both flanking bays. A single-storey lean-to addition is recessed to the outer right.

The northeast (side) elevation features a single window at ground level to the outer left, with a lean-to addition to the right and two small square windows above. The two-storey wing on the right has two modern patio doors in a full-width lean-to projection at ground level, along with single windows at the first floor.

On the northwest (rear) elevation, the two-storey wing projects to the left with single windows on both floors. There is a single-storey lean-to addition to the outer left and a single window at ground level in a bay recessed to the right.

The southwest (side) elevation retains the original house with single windows in both bays at ground level, a single window at the first floor in the left bay, and a small attic light offset to the left of center. The two-storey wing is recessed to the left.

The windows predominantly feature 9- and 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case style, with modern glazing in the later additions. The roofs are covered with purple-grey slate, featuring stone coped skews and replacement rainwater goods. There are corniced ridge and apex stacks with circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1998. A low coped rubble wall encloses the site at the front.
