Description

Cherrytrees is an early 19th-century, two-storey mansion with a basement and attic, featuring five bays in a classical style. Mid-19th century additions include single-storey and basement wings. The southern and side elevations are finished in droved and polished ashlar, while the rear is constructed of rubble with contrasting droved ashlar dressings. The building has rusticated ashlar quoins and a base course.

The southern elevation showcases a dentilled cornice and a blocking course, with a regular arrangement of windows. Curved stone steps lead down to a Doric columned door at the center, which has a deep-set panelled door topped with a sunray fanlight. The central bay is pedimented and features an oval oculus. The outer wings, which have piend roofs, are slightly recessed and each contains a corniced four-light canted window, with two-bay return elevations. The eastern return is windowed, while the western return has a window and French doors, accessible via stone steps. An ashlar coped parapet on the southern elevation shields the basement recess.

On the northern elevation, a rectangular stair tower projects at the center, breaking the eaves to the attic with a piend roof. The flanking bays have irregular window arrangements, with some later insertions. The bays to the left of center are advanced to align with the later wing, while the wing to the right is slightly advanced. There are gabled and lean-to additions at the basement level, and a flat-roofed addition was removed in 1990.

The outbuildings include lean-to stone sheds that back onto an ashlar coped rubble wall, which terraces the basement recess. A square-plan game larder with a piended roof, constructed of rubble, is located by the outbuildings to the north, featuring a door to the east and louvred openings on the remaining sides.

The windows predominantly feature a 12-pane glazing pattern in sash and case style, with horizontal panes in the canted windows. The piend roofs are covered with grey slates, and there are tall ashlar end stacks with cornices and original cans.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1989. To the west of the house, there are rendered square gatepiers that support a decorative iron gate.
