Description

Wallneuk Parish Church, located at 11 Croft Street in Paisley, was designed by architect T G Abercombie and built between 1913 and 1915. This church is an example of Perpendicular Gothic architecture and features a nave with transepts and an apse, as well as a tower and attached halls.

The exterior is constructed of snecked rubble with ashlar dressings. The west front boasts a large traceried window, flanked by polygonal buttresses, and is topped with a battlemented parapet that rises to a central crocket. To the right, there is a porch with a 4-centred-arched entrance. The tower, which projects from the south, has a tall first stage with large mullioned and transomed windows on the south face and a lancet window on the west. The second stage features two 2-light traceried belfry lights on each face and a battlemented parapet with corner pinnacles. The buttressed nave includes three 3-light traceried windows, while the transepts have gabled ends with 2-bay designs, featuring 2-light traceried windows and smaller 2-light windows below. The lower apse is also buttressed, with a canted east end and three small traceried windows. A continuous parapet is raised over the buttressed gables. Various vestries are located in the re-entrant angles to the north and south of the apse, and an L-shaped block of offices and halls in a similar style is attached to the north. The church is topped with slate roofs.

Inside, the church has a single-span nave with galleries in the transepts and at the rear. The transepts and apse feature 4-centred arches, with the apse being richly moulded. Throughout the church, the wooden roofs are also designed with 4-centred arches. An organ is situated in the apse.
