Description
Binn Cottage and Monument is an early 19th-century cottage, likely built to replace an earlier cottage on the site. It is a single-storey structure made of rubble, featuring three bays with a lower two-bay wing set back on the west gable. The cottage has a central projecting porch and a four-pane glazing pattern. It includes end stacks, a pantiled roof, and a slate easing course. A low front retaining wall incorporates remains of the earlier cottage, and a lintel dated 1761 can still be seen.
The monument is set into the wall and shows evidence of a blocked window to the left. It consists of two margined panels arranged one above the other, topped with a simple crowning pediment, and is probably from the late 18th century. The inscription on the top panel is indecipherable, while the lower panel contains a reference to freehold status as noted in historical records.
