Description
Belmont Castle, originally known as Kirkhill Tower, dates back to around 1500. It was modified in 1752 in a Georgian style, with a mansion added. In the first half of the 19th century, it was further altered in a Tudor style, featuring a central three-storey tower flanked by round towers on the south facade. The castle was burned in 1884, after which a top was added to the tower, along with large extensions. The interior showcases a French Rococo design, created by architect Jas. Thomson of Baird & Thomson in 1885. Belmont Castle was the home of Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman.
