Description

The Highland Trust Museum, located at 64 Burrell Street in Crieff, is a pair of two-storey, three-bay houses dating from the late 18th to early 19th century, with alterations made in the late 20th century. The buildings are harled with raised margins, and the southwestern house features a gabled dormer bay.

The northwest (principal) elevations show No. 62 with a symmetrical arrangement of closely aligned bays, featuring a central timber door at ground level, flanked by windows and a chamfered angle to the outer left. The first floor has additional windows in the outer bays. No. 64 also has a symmetrical design but with widely spaced bays; it includes a central door at ground level and a window above, leading to a chimneyed gable, with windows in the flanking bays on both floors.

The northeast elevation presents a broad gabled facade with a window to the left on the first floor. The southeast (rear) elevations are asymmetrical, with 20th-century alterations at ground level, including a lean-to addition on the left (No. 64) and a porch on the right.

The principal elevation features timber sash and case windows with a 12-pane glazing pattern, while smaller panes are used elsewhere. The roofs are covered with grey slates and include small rooflights, with harled stacks topped with cans, some of which are polygonal.

Inside, the museum retains some original simple stone fireplaces, some equipped with mid-19th century cast-iron grates. The lintels are made of adzed timbers, and the A-frame roof features half and whole adzed timbers. A simple fireplace with a large monolithic triangular lintel can be found in the south gable of the attic storey.
