Description
Buffalo Hut, built around 1840, is a small, intricately detailed circular hut located on a hill that overlooks Buffalo Park, which is part of the designed landscape of Rohallion. The hut features a conical roof, a large gabled porch, and a tall circular chimney at the rear. It has deep-set round-headed openings with narrow voussoirs; some of these openings have original rubble infill, while others are fitted with boarded timber doors, and some resemble lancets. The construction is of mixed rubble, with a larger rubble base and some squared quoin stones. The eaves overhang, revealing exposed rafters.
The entrance includes a two-leaf boarded timber door adorned with decorative ironwork hinges, and the window openings also have timber boarded doors or shutters. Inside, the floor is cobbled, and the roof is covered with grey slate. The interior features rustic half-round timbered walls and low benches in both the porch and the hut's interior, which also contains a large stone fireplace.
