Lawers

Lawers is an important building originally constructed in 1738, designed by William Adam, Senior. It features a square, two-storey main block with nine windows, flanked by lower two-storey wings on the east and west sides. The south front has a pediment, while the north front is distinguished by shaped gables with urns and paired arch-linked chimneys. The structure is built of rubble with margins and relieving arches.

Around 1810, a four-column Roman Doric porch and a central attic were added to the north front. On the south front, there is a first-floor Ionic portico that reused the original pediment, along with long colonnades of slim unfluted giant Doric columns at the ground floor, which connect to single-storey bow-fronted wings. Additionally, there is a half-storey ashlar stable block featuring a cupola clock tower above the entrance archway, designed by architect Richard Crichton.

The Adam wings were rebuilt to match the height of the central block around 1840, and the ballroom was later extended into the portico. The interiors are notable, showcasing features from both the Adam period and later alterations.
