Description
6 Burrell Square in Crieff is a short angled terrace of houses built between 1809 and 1810. The terrace consists of two-storey houses with attics and basements, some of which have been subdivided. The buildings are constructed from squared and snecked rubble with stone margins and feature stone mullions.
The southeast entrance elevation includes several distinct blocks. Nos. 1 and 2 form a five-bay block, with the bays arranged in a 3-2 grouping and a nepus gable at the center. The right side has a modern door to the left and a window to the right, with two windows on the first floor. The left side features a panelled timber door with a five-pane fanlight at the center, flanked by windows, and regular fenestration on the first floor, while the center window is blinded. There is a small modern window off-center to the left in the timpany gable.
Nos. 3 and 4 create a symmetrical four-bay block with panelled timber doors and plate glass fanlights in the center bays, flanked by bipartite windows and four single windows on the first floor. A traditional piended dormer is located over the right bay, while a modern rooflight is on the left.
No. 5 is an angled two-bay block with a modern door to the right and a window above, along with additional windows on each floor of the left bay and two modern rooflights.
No. 6 features a two-bay block with oversailing steps to the left leading to a panelled timber door with a two-part fanlight, and a window to the right. The first floor has regular fenestration and two modern rooflights above.
No. 7 is another two-bay block with oversailing steps on the right leading to a panelled timber door and plate glass fanlight, with a window on the first floor and a piended dormer above. The left bay has a full-height canted tripartite window, which is complemented by a similar dormer window.
The southwest elevation, facing Drummawhandie Road, features a tall gable with a blocked opening at the raised basement and a small window on the left side of the gablehead.
The glazing patterns vary, with No. 6 having a 12-pane pattern and No. 2 featuring a 4-pane pattern (except for the ground right), while Nos. 3 and 7 have plate glass at the first floor and ground levels, respectively. All windows are timber sash and case, with the remaining glazing being modern. The roofs are covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar, render, and brick stacks, some topped with polygonal cans. The ashlar-coped skews add to the architectural detail.
Additionally, there are decorative ironwork railings surrounding the property.
