Description
148 Atholl Road in Pitlochry is a mid-19th century, two-storey terrace of ten nearly symmetrical gabled houses. The exterior features heavily pointed, narrow squared rubble bands with slab lintels.
On the southwest elevation, the central bay has a small gabled porch over a modern door, flanked by two advanced gabled bays, each with altered windows on the ground floor and a single window above. To the right, there are three bays with a part-glazed timber door and gabled porch at the center ground, flanked by windows, and three regularly spaced windows on the first floor, each breaking the eaves into a dormer head. The outer right bay is slightly advanced and has a bipartite window on the ground floor and a single window on the first floor. The penultimate bay to the left is lower and slightly advanced, featuring a part-glazed timber door, a plate glass fanlight, and a small dormer window above. There is a window on each floor in the bay to the right, with the first-floor window breaking the eaves into a dormer head. The outer left bay is advanced and has an altered window on the ground floor and a single window on the first floor.
The southeast elevation has an advanced gable at the center with a modern door and plate glass fanlight on the ground floor, and a window on the first floor. There is a single-storey lean-to bay adjoining at the outer right.
The northwest elevation features a blank bay with a projecting, full-height, shouldered stack piercing the eaves at the center.
The northeast elevation displays a variety of elements, including gabled bays similar to those on the southwest, a single-storey lean-to, and pitch-roofed projections.
The windows include 4-pane and plate glass glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows at No. 146 and on the ground and first floor to the right of No. 148, with top-opening windows elsewhere. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there are coped rubble and ashlar stacks with some cans. The eaves are deeply projecting and bracketed.
