Description

The steading at Monorgan is a large quadrangular-plan structure that includes a cart-shed and granary from the late 18th century, with mid-19th century ranges to the south, east, and west, and further mid-20th century additions to the west. The building features rubble masonry with stugged ashlar dressings on the mid-19th century sections, while the later additions are constructed from brick, timber, and red sandstone sourced from the demolition of part of Rossie Priory. The roofs are primarily covered with piended slate, though some parts use corrugated metal and asbestos. The structure includes boarded doors and openings, several multi-pane windows, and various rooflights.

On the north elevation, the cart-shed and granary are positioned to the left, accompanied by a window. To the right are six elliptical-headed cart-arches, with eight openings above them. There is a door with droved dressings and a hayloft door above at the left return. The mid-19th century bays to the right contain two doors and a window at ground level, along with two piend-roofed hayloft doors above. The far right features two mid-20th century bays.

The east elevation has three doors and four windows on the ground floor, along with two hayloft doors on the first floor. The south elevation showcases a mid-19th century three-bay range to the right, with a wide bay at the center that has a large opening and a small door. To the right is a gable with a sliding door, while the slightly lower gable to the left features a large sliding door. There is also a mid-20th century segmental-roofed bay to the left.

The west elevation consists of various mid-20th century additions. Inside, the covered cattle court remains intact, complete with feeding passages. Additionally, there is a former mill built of rubble to the north, which has been extensively altered.
