Description
Fowlis Wester Parish Church is a simple, long, low rubble building from the late medieval period, featuring an oblong shape and a blind north wall. It has a T-plan with a north addition that opens into the church through a low segmental arch, which includes a datestone from 1641. The church was 'repaired' or possibly reconstructed in 1802 and underwent significant remodelling in 1927 by architect Jeffrey Waddell from Glasgow, who added much Celtic ornamentation to the furnishings while preserving a few original details, such as the sacrament-house and bell-cote. Inside the church, there is a small cross-slab dated 1678, along with a coat of arms and the original pediment from the churchyard gate.
