Description

Grieves House is an earlier 18th-century former farmhouse located in Colliston, Glenfarg, with dates of 1728 and 1739. The building is two storeys with an attic, featuring a three-bay, largely symmetrical rectangular plan. It is currently unused as of 2012 and has a single-storey section to the west and a lean-to at the rear (north). The exterior is constructed of harled rubble with smooth margins, raised cills, and a cornice. A later addition includes a full-height canted three-light window in the left bay, and the rear has crow-stepped skews. There are central skylights on both the front and rear elevations.

On the south elevation, there is a central boarded entrance door with a moulded diamond plaque above it, inscribed with a heart, initials, and the date 1739. To the far left, there is a single-storey, two-bay section, and to the right, a lintel bears carved initials A B and the date 1728.

The north elevation features a lower lean-to on the right with a glass and timber entrance door on the west elevation, along with central and smaller window openings and a central skylight.

The east elevation is gabled, with off-centre single window openings on the ground and first floors, and a central window opening in the attic. The building predominantly has 12- and 4-pane timber sash and case windows, some of which are broken. The roof is covered with non-traditional pantiles and has coped gable stacks, raised skews, and skewputts.

Inside, as seen in 2012, the room layout is largely original, featuring a curved timber stair, some simple timber fire surrounds, and timber boarding in some rooms.
