Description
Horsemill at Tresness House in Sanday is a complex of buildings from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, which includes farmhouses and a steading. The structures are built of rubble with ashlar dressings, and most roofs are slated.
The house is a single-storey building with crow-stepped gables, believed to date from around 1650, although it may actually be from the 18th century. It is whitewashed and has been extended to create a courtyard, with the main roof continuing over this addition. The house features three wide bays and a gabled central porch, with end stacks, one of which has been heightened. To the right, there is a wing that forms an L-plan and appears to be from the 19th century.
The steading consists mainly of a long row of buildings, with a tall crow-stepped barn at one end, likely dating from the 18th century. An octagonal horsemill is attached to the barn, and there are lower ranges, some of which have corrugated iron roofs.
