7 Cromwell Road, Kirkwall

1 Cromwell Road in Kirkwall is an early 19th century building that has undergone later alterations. It consists of a row of five, two-storey, three-bay houses with a plain symmetrical rectangular plan. Some of the houses feature crow-stepped gables and are part of a group that includes St Catherine's Place, which is listed separately. The exterior is harled with deep-set openings.

On the northwest (principal) elevation, there are deep-set doors in each bay at the ground level, although these have various modern replacements. Each bay also has a window on both floors flanking the doors.

The windows are timber sash and case, with either two or four panes. The roofs are covered with purple Welsh slate for Numbers 1, 3, and 5, while Number 7 has a grey slate roof. Number 9 features a traditional stone slate roof. The building has stone ridges, harled gableheads, and ridge stacks, as well as stone skews between Numbers 1 and 3, and between 5 and 7. The rainwater goods are predominantly uPVC.

The interiors were not seen during the last inspection in 1998.
