Description

This is a mid-to-late 18th century farmhouse with later additions. The original section is a three-storey, three-bay building to which a two-storey and attic, three-bay wing was added to the southeast corner. A single-storey and loft wing extends northwards from the northwest side, and a single-storey building is attached to the east gable of the original house, with another single-storey building extending northwards from it. The elevations are predominantly harled, with rubble construction visible in places. The later wing features ashlar window surrounds, quoins, and an eaves course.

The principal, or south, elevation has a two-bay section on the left. A corniced ashlar doorpiece originally stood to the right, although the doorway has been partially blocked and a window inserted. Above it are windows to the first and second floors. A ground-floor window is located to the left of the former doorway, with centred windows above on the first and second floors. An advanced wing to the right features two ground-floor windows, with a larger first-floor window centrally above and a blocked window to the right. A central attic window is positioned above, with an ashlar band course below. A single-storey building is set back to the east gable of the original house, with a central door. Attached to the rear of this building is a crowstepped single-storey section with a central doorway and an arrowslit window above.

The west elevation has a relatively recent ground-floor addition that partially obscures the west gable. A first-floor window is visible to the right, and the added wing is set back to the right, featuring three blocked ground-floor windows and three first-floor windows, also blocked. A rear wing to the left has two windows to the right and one to the left.

The north elevation shows an advanced wing to the right, with forestairs added to the gable. A loft door is situated to the left. A small ground-floor window is visible in the inner angle, with small, single first and second-floor windows above to the left. A ground-floor window is positioned to the far left, and an advanced single-storey building to the far left has two narrow, blocked windows.

The east elevation has a ground, first, and second-floor window to the left. An advanced wing extends to the left, with two ground-floor windows and a larger first-floor window to the left; a blocked central window lies between them. A small second-floor window is situated to the right. The single-storey buildings to the east have plain gables and facades, with a rear wing set back to the right, including two windows to the left section and a door and window to the right section.

The windows are predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case, with larger windows on the first floor. Smaller six-pane timber sash and case windows are found on the second floor, alongside some later four-pane examples. The roofs are pitched, with corrugated asbestos sheeting covering the main house. Coped gable end stacks with circular cans are present, and a flagstone slate roof covers the single-storey wings. Features include rooflights to the north wing, crowstepped gables, skews, and a tall, coped ridge stack. The single-storey building to the northeast has a crowstepped gable and flatstone slate roof. The single-storey building attached to the east gable has a pitched roof and flagstone slate.

The interior was not inspected in 2000.

To the south, tall corniced piers form the gateposts; these are rusticated and have ball finials to the left of the south gable. A swept rubble wall runs north and eastwards from the left pier to form a courtyard wall, which is also swept at the northeast corner. A lean-to shed is attached to the west.
