Description
The Smithy at 11 Balfour Village in Shapinsay dates from around 1850 and is a two-storey, L-plan building constructed from regularly coursed rubble. The street-facing elevation features three bays, with the right bay being the gable end of the rear block that has a forestair leading to the upper entrance. The two left bays have bipartite windows at the ground level and raised wall head gables for the upper windows. The return elevation has no windows but includes a door in a single-storey lean-to addition. The crow-stepped gable end facing the street has an apex stack and is topped with a graded slate roof.
