Description
Graemsay Kirk is a mid to later 19th century gabled hall church with a rectangular plan, featuring five bays and a lower two-bay gabled entrance vestibule at the east end. The church is constructed from roughly coursed rubble with rubble dressings and has round-arched windows in the main block.
On the south elevation, the bays are arranged in a 5-2 grouping. There is a window in each bay of the five-bay group on the left, while the two-bay group on the right contains a boarded door flanked by windows. The north elevation is blank, as is the east elevation, which features a gablehead stack above and two evenly spaced windows in the main block behind the vestibule. The west elevation has a central round-arched opening that was formerly a door.
The church has timber-framed fixed-pane windows and a traditional stone tiled roof, complete with a stone ridge, stone skews, and a block finial at the west end. There is also a corniced gablehead stack on the east side.
The interior was not seen in 1998. Surrounding the church is a graveyard enclosed by a drystone rubble wall, which is rectangular in shape and located to the west of the church. The graveyard features rubble square-plan gatepiers to the west and predominantly 19th century headstones.
