Inchgower House, 16 Shore Road, Skelmorlie

Inchgower House is a two-story villa dating to circa 1850, situated on a west-facing raised terrace overlooking the sea in Skelmorlie. The house was built with squared and coursed, pinned sandstone, featuring ashlar dressings.

The west elevation has a central doorway with glazed upper panels and a strip fanlight, with a single window above at the first floor. A canted bay is located to the left, with a gablehead which breaks the eaves at the first floor. A large, advanced bow extends to the right, incorporating three windows on each floor, and topped with a conical roof clad in fish-scale slates.

A porch is positioned to the south, boasting a round-headed window on its return and a pyramidal roof with swept eaves. A single-storey, two-bay recessed service wing extends to the north, with bipartited windows.

The windows are plate glass sashes. Architectural details include overhanging eaves supported by brackets, grey slates, and coped ashlar stacks.

A bowed addition, constructed circa 1870 in the style of William Leiper, has been added to the west. Stone steps lead down to a terraced garden, enclosed by an ashlar coped squared rubble retaining wall.
