Description

This building, dating from around 1880, is a single-storey and attic, roughly Y-plan former coach house, stable, and cottage, which is now a house. It is situated on a sloping site with an open courtyard to the west (front) and a projecting wing at the center of the rear. The structure features a round two-storey turret to the west, a glazed roof over the courtyard, some decorative half-timbering, and crow-stepped gables. The materials include tooled, squared, snecked red sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. The upper floor slightly jetties out, and there is an eaves course at the turret. The windows have chamfered margins with sloping cills.

On the west (principal) and courtyard elevations, there is a gabled wing to the left with a bipartite stone-mullioned window at ground level and a later tripartite window in the attic. The courtyard elevation displays half-timbering and two swept-roof dormers. The turret, which has a finialed, conical roof, is positioned to the right of the gable. A studded, timber-boarded front door is located in a flat-roofed stone porch with curved corners, slightly advanced to the right of the turret. The former coach house encloses the courtyard to the right and features a single swept-roof dormer on the west elevation, along with carriage entrances on the courtyard elevation.

The rear elevations are irregularly fenestrated, and the ground rises to the east. The windows predominantly consist of small-pane glazing in casement styles, with some sash and case windows at ground level. There are corniced wallhead stacks with some red clay cans, and the roof is covered with graded grey slate and red terracotta ridge tiles.

Additionally, there is a crowstep-gabled ancillary building to the southeast of the house, constructed of snecked red sandstone. This building has a window on the west gable and two timber-boarded doors on the north side.
