18-20 Main Street, Beith

This building, located at 18-20 Main Street, Beith, is a two-storey range constructed in 1900 and originally built for the Cooperative Society. The architectural style is Italianate. The ground floor shopfronts have been replaced in the late 20th century, however, the original cornice remains above. The building features four key-blocked round-arched windows and two Venetian windows, symmetrically arranged, with a linking string course at their springing point. There is a cornice and parapet, along with two prominent corniced and bracketed wallhead stacks, inscribed with plaques carved 'AD' and '1900'. The exterior is constructed of buff sandstone ashlar.

The rear elevation has been altered and abuts single-storey dwellings on higher ground. The interior has been significantly altered and contains no original features.

The building is situated in a prominent town centre location, and while the ground floor has been altered, the arched first-floor windows and the prominent ashlar chimney stacks retain architectural interest. The building is marked on the 1910 Ordnance Survey map. The statutory address is 16-20 (even numbers) Main Street.
