Description
This is a villa-style manse, built in 1874 for John Honeyman, with asymmetrical design and Gothic detailing. It is a single storey building with an attic and a single-storey, three-bay south wing. The exterior is constructed from coursed, squared red rubble, partially cherry-caulked, with red ashlar dressings.
The east elevation has three bays, featuring a central gabled porch with projecting eaves. The porch has a Tudor-arched doorway with a hood mould, a panelled door with a fanlight above, and single windows to the gabled bay on the right, also with a hood mould at the attic level. A stair window is present, featuring three cusped-headed lights with stepped cills. Coped end stacks rise from the slate roof, which has deeply projecting eaves. The south wing has a central doorway and the west elevation features three gabled bays along with a canted outer ground floor, hood-moulded attic windows to the outer bays, and a canopy over the ground floor to the left bays.
The property is approached via corniced, square, red ashlar gatepiers. Accounts from Honeyman & Keppie exist at Keppie and Henderson's office in Glasgow, and the manse is documented in “The Book of the Parish Church of Skelmorlie” from 1893.
