Description

This is an early 19th century building on Eglinton Street, Beith, originally comprising three bays. It was later expanded to include the Anderson Hotel. The building is two storeys high and features three piended, canted dormers added in the late 19th century. The front has a pair of off-centre doors, one now blocked to the right, topped by an entablature and scooped blocking course. Flanking the doors are windows, with a later window to the left and a window to the far left. The first floor has three windows with architraved surrounds, and all windows have moulded cills. The exterior is painted ashlar, with a base course, raised angle margins, an eaves course, a cornice, and a blocking course.

The rear elevation features a late 20th century single-storey extension and three piended, canted dormers.

The original timber sash and case plate glass windows (initially 12-pane, with astragals removed) and 4-pane dormer windows have been replaced with UPVC. The roof is covered in grey slates with a stone ridge and a corniced ashlar stack incorporating circular clay cans.

The interior contains no original features.

A photograph from 1979 shows the building unified with the adjacent building at 19-21 Eglinton Street through matching paint on the window surrounds and margins. This photograph also depicts the original glazing in all windows, including the dormers. The building is contemporary with its neighbour and the two buildings together form a pleasing group on Eglinton Street. The doorpieces are distinctive and both buildings have the potential for restoration. The building is marked on the 1858 Ordnance Survey map and was identified as a hotel on the 1910 map.
