Description

The Harbour in Saltcoats includes the old pier head, which may contain part of the harbour works built by Robert Cunninghame in 1686. It features the Maritime Museum, a late 18th century, two-storey, three-bay house constructed from rubble with raised margins. The house has a central door and sash windows, an eaves course, and a simple cornice. There are corniced stacks at both ends, and the roof is covered with slate. At the end of the pier, there is a rusticated and battlemented lookout bastion.
