Description
This is an early 19th-century lodge, originally two separate structures that were linked around 1900. The lodge is situated at Kelburnfoot, near Kelburn Castle. It is a single-storey, symmetrical building constructed with harled walls and polished ashlar margins, with long and short window dressings and pilastered, pedimented outer bays.
The east elevation has six bays, all of which now have blocked openings. The prominent outer bays feature recessed round-headed windows with pilastered jambs, while the four inner bays have two doorways and two windows. The west elevation mirrors the design of the east elevation; a later 19th-century door is set within a lean-to porch. The building has corniced circular stacks and slate roofs.
The construction of a railway and a realigned main road around 1885 cut through the original drive to Kelburn House, resulting in the isolation of the lodge.
