Gardener's Cottage, Croftmohr, The Crescent, Skelmorlie

This is a small, pyramid-roofed gardener's cottage, built around 1911. Designed by Francis Robertson and Hacking, it has a square plan and a single storey with an attic. The exterior is harled (roughcast). The east elevation features a central door with a segmental arch, set within a shallow rectangular panel, flanked by small square windows. A cornice sits above the door, and there are four projecting square blocks. Deeply projecting eaves and a single swept-roofed dormer are also visible. A tall, corniced stack rises from the centre of the roof. A single window is set within a recessed rectangular panel on the south elevation. The roof is covered with red tiles. Plans for associated stable, office, coachman’s and gardener’s houses were initially submitted in 1904, though this wider scheme was not implemented. Subsequent plans specifically for the gardener’s house were approved on 3 November 1910. Records from the Ayrshire County Council Northern District Committee Minutes of 1910 detail the application.
