Description
The Burial Ground at Cabrach Parish Church, dated 1786, is a simple rectangular church featuring a symmetrical south elevation with four bays and an entrance in the west gable. It is constructed of roughly harled rubble with tooled rubble and ashlar dressings. The south front has four square-headed windows, each with 12-pane glazing and hinges for shutters. The west entrance has a double-leaf plank door with a gallery window above it. At the east gable apex, there is a bellcote with a shaped cap and ball finial, and the building has a Banffshire slate roof with a stone ridge. There is also a later single bay Minister's room at the east gable.
Inside, the church has a plain interior that was re-cast around 1900. There is a gallery at the west, and the pulpit is set within a semi-circular alcove, likely replacing a former east doorway, and features a moulded surround with painted text. The panelled pulpit has neo-Jacobean detailing and is accessed by a short flight of stairs with turned balusters leading to the handrail. A simple late 18th-century delicate plaster motif is found in the center of the ceiling, surrounding a lamphook. There is a mural memorial dated 1771 that has been re-set from an earlier church, along with another memorial from 1817.
The burial ground is enclosed by rubble walls, with tooled ashlar piers featuring shaped caps and ball finials flanking the carriage entrance, and similar piers at the pedestrian entrance. It contains a collection of good 18th and 19th-century local slate tombstones.
