Description
Botriphnie Primary School, located in Drummuir, was designed by architect F D Robertson in 1875, with additions made by J D Corrigall in 1905. This single-storey school features a rambling layout and showcases French Gothic detailing. The exterior is harled, with polished ashlar margins and dressings. The entrance is centrally located on the north elevation, beneath a Gothic ashlar gablet that has incised decoration at the base of an advanced tower. This tower includes paired Gothic lights on the first stage and a bellcast truncated spire.
Flanking the entrance are two-light pointed-headed windows beneath gables, which also feature incised decoration in the tympana. The south elevation has similar windows, as well as paired square-headed windows with shaped margins and various oculi. The building is adorned with decorative cast-iron apex finials, coped end and ridge stacks, and has piended slate roofs. Surrounding the school and playground are low coped rubble walls.
