Description

Balnageith Farmhouse is a two-story, three-bay house likely built around 1840, possibly by John Urquhart, an architect and builder from Forres. It faces east and presents a symmetrical facade. A single-story service wing is set back on the south gable. The walls are harl-pointed rubble with tooled and polished ashlar dressings. The central entrance is now masked by a modern glazed porch. Flanking windows are set in wide, simplified Egyptian-style surrounds, and the first-floor windows have a similar design, with blocked cills linked by a continuous cill band. The south gable has a regular two-bay fenestration, featuring four-pane glazing. The roof is a shallow piended slate roof with paired coped diamond flues set diagonally on rectangular bases.

The building was owned by the Leslie family of Balnageith from the 18th and 19th centuries, with the last owner being the Reverend William Leslie, Minister of St Andrews, Lhanbryde (1783-1839), who authored A General View of Agriculture for the Counties of Nairn and Moray in 1813. The farm steading is not included in the listing.
