The Hot House at Fairfield House on Croft Street in Dalkeith is an elegant curved glass house built in the earlier to mid-19th century. It has a rectangular plan and is attached to the northern retaining wall of Fairfield House. The structure features a brick heated wall that rises above the glass house, complete with a row of ventilators at the top. The base is made of cast iron with moulded panels, and there are doors on both the east and west sides. Inside, the hot house has a six-bay arcaded cast-iron framework, with decorative cusping on the semicircular arches and fluted piers.
