Description
Old Gorton House is possibly a mid 17th century cottage that has undergone later alterations and additions. It is an irregular two-storey, two-bay structure with a rectangular plan and crowstepped gables. The exterior is finished in yellow harl with slightly raised painted surrounds around the openings, and features a base course. To the west, there is a single-storey truncated rectangular-plan addition with a boarded south elevation.
On the south (entrance) elevation, there is a replacement small-pane glazed door at ground level in the bay to the left of centre, with a window above it on the first floor. To the right of centre, there is another window at ground level, with a non-aligned window above on the first floor.
The north elevation has a window in the first floor bay to the outer left, and a wide-set window at ground level in the outer right bay, with a non-aligned window above on the first floor.
The east side elevation features a ground-level window set wide to the right of centre and an attic window set wide to the right of the crowstepped gablehead.
The cottage has small-pane windows with various opening methods, plate glass picture windows in the addition, and skylights on the roof. The roof is covered with red pantiles and has a lean-to roof for the addition. There are harled, coped stacks at each gabled end, a harled stack in the centre of the lean-to, and skews on the lean-to. The property also has replacement cast-iron rainwater goods.
