21 Murderdean Road, Newtongrange

21 Murderdean Road in Newtongrange is a late 19th-century building consisting of a single storey and basement, featuring a mirrored pair of three-bay, rectangular-plan cottages. The structure is made of red brick with long and short yellow brick dressings. It has projecting cills, segmental-arched bipartite windows, and a corbelled eaves course.

The northeast elevation is symmetrical, with doorways located in the penultimate bays on either side of the principal floor, each featuring panelled timber doors and letterbox fanlights. There is a window in each of the remaining bays, while the basement floor has infilled window openings.

On the northwest elevation, there is an off-centre window to the right of the basement, which is flanked by infilled door and window openings. The southwest elevation was not visible in 1998. The southeast elevation also has infilled door and window openings at the basement level.

The cottages have 10-pane timber sash and case windows and a piended grey slate roof with a terracotta ridge and terracotta finials at the apex. The building features cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 1998.
