Description

This is a two-storey with attic, three-bay rectangular former manse dating from 1804, accompanied by single-storey pavilions on either side, with modern additions made later. The main elevation is constructed of pointed and vermiculated sandstone, while the sides, pavilions, and rear are of coursed rubble. Ashlar is used for projecting margins and cills, and the building has a skew-gabled roof. Bands of iron and tension screws are visible at the first-floor level, eaves, and parapet.

The principal, or southwest, elevation features a stone step flanked by low shaped walls, leading to a slightly projecting architraved door surround with a rectangular pediment above the central bay. The heavy, ornately carved timber door is deeply inset, and a rectangular fanlight with seven lights and curved in-fills sits above. Windows flank the door, with a single window to the right return. A thick band course aligns with the side margins. The first floor has three bays, and the eaves course incorporates a partially concealed low parapet containing an iron gutter box. Three Carron lights are set into the roof. A stone chimney stack with projecting neck copes and five low cans is visible on each gablehead. The left pavilion has an arched window with projecting margins. A glazed, timber single-storey extension with a flat roof adjoins the left pavilion, while the right pavilion features an arched opening, now infilled with a window. The wall of the right pavilion has been heightened to one-and-a-quarter storeys, with overhanging slab coping concealing a roof terrace and an orange flat-roofed extension.

The northwest elevation has a blind wall linking to the single-storey pavilion and a later flat-roofed extension with wood and glazing. The northeast (rear) elevation, partially obscured, includes a later flat-roofed single-storey extension to the right, with a boarded opening in the left return. A pair of gabled dormers with a Carron light between are visible in the attic storey.

The southeast elevation shows the pavilion raised to accommodate a garage and a flat-roofed "terrace" extension, finished with a harled and painted orange surface. A metal roller garage door with an orange metal girder is present, alongside a modern, half-glazed door. A blind storey above has a window in the upper right corner, and a concrete wall mimics blockwork. Irregular modern fenestration is present on the left return.

Most windows on the front elevation and the right return are 10-pane sash and case windows. A 12-pane arched sash and case window is present in the left pavilion, and a plain 12-pane window in the right pavilion. Some windows have mixed modern glazing. The main house has a piended slate roof with piended dormers and Carron lights to the rear. The left pavilion has a hipped slate roof with metal ridging, while the right pavilion has a flat roof. Metal rainwater goods are present on the left of the house, and conceal a cast-iron gutter box.

The interior has been altered more recently.
