Hope Lodge, Bridge Of Weir

Hope Lodge, designed by Robert A Bryden, was likely built soon after 1894 as a lodge for Bridge of Weir Hospital. This two-storey building features English vernacular architecture, similar to the residence at the hospital's main gate. The ground floor is constructed of ashlar and brick, while the first floor has timber-framed plastered walls, topped with slate roofs and red ridging tiles. The main entrance front is in an L-plan, with a roof that sweeps over an open porch at the angle. Each arm of the house has a gable end with canted ground floor windows, and corner brackets support the angles of the jettied upper floor. The property is enclosed by a boundary wall along the roadway, which includes piers and gatepiers, as well as decorative wrought-iron gates and railings.
