Description
The stables at Cromarty House date from around 1775 and form a large two-storey, seven-bay U-shaped range, with two additional two-bay wings at the rear, all of the same height. Each wing features two tall segmental arched carriage bays and two windows for the servants' rooms above. There is a hay loft opening in the center of the structure. The front (north) elevation of the stables is illuminated by seven lunettes set in round-headed blank recesses, which are connected by a cill course. Above, there are seven small windows providing light to the loft. The front elevation is constructed of ashlar stone, while the rear and sides are made of cherry cocked rubble. The building includes ashlar dressings and a moulded eaves course, topped with a piended slate roof. Inside, the two-bay vaulted aisled interior is supported by simple wooden Tuscan pillars, of which only three remain.
