Description
The Mount Alexander Aqueduct, circa 1815, was built by Thomas Telford as part of the Caledonian Canal. It consists of a pair of parallel tunnels running beneath the canal, designed to carry a footpath (which also functions as a flood arch) and the Allt Mor burn. The tunnels are flanked to the north and south by wide, semi-circular abutments. The structure is primarily constructed from rubble with tooled rubble dressings, and features triangular cutwaters. The aqueduct was built to provide access to Mount Alexander farm while also draining the Allt Mor burn. The statutory address was revised in 2020, previously recorded as 'Caledonian Canal, Mount Alexander Aqueduct over Allt Mor'.
