Description

The Gaelic Chapel, located in The Paye, Cromarty, is a roofless church built in 1783. It features a symmetrical rectangular design with long north and south elevations. At the east end, there is a two-stage tower, while the west side has a low entrance that projects with chamfered angles. The exterior is finished with thinly harled red rubble, accented by polished ashlar dressings and margins. The belfry stage of the tower is constructed from cherry pointed squared rubble, with ashlar angle margins.

The main body of the church consists of four bays. On the south elevation, there are two tall central round-headed windows and one window in both the ground and gallery levels of the outer bays. The north elevation has three blind windows at the ground floor and three gallery windows. The tower features splayed angles on both stages, a round-headed door on the south side, and four round-headed keyblocked openings in the belfry. The tower is topped with a tall bellcast and facetted slate roof. Surrounding the graveyard is a drystone dyke, which contains gravestones from the late 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
