Description
3 and 10 Seaview Terrace in Fort William is a late 19th-century polychrome brick terrace, consisting of three two-storey and attic blocks, with four flats in each block, totaling twelve units. It was likely constructed as housing for railway workers, and there is a detached laundry building located to the northeast.
The terrace features three blocks that step down the slope, constructed of red brick with a contrasting lighter-coloured brick base course. There is a band course between the ground and first floors, as well as cill and lintel bands and an eaves course at the top. The band course between the ground and first floors breaks into a segmental relieving arch above the ground floor bipartite windows, which are accentuated by moulded ashlar consoles at the centers. The entrance porches on the northwest elevations are projecting, gabletted, and finialled, while the rear southeast elevations have canopied entrances supported by elaborately cast iron brackets. The windows are single and bipartite, featuring steep-sloping cills and plate glass glazing, with the upper sash being shorter. The pitched slated roof includes some original cant-fronted dormer windows with sash and case glazing, and there are central axial stacks.
The laundry block is a single-storey structure with a centralized square plan, containing four units, each equipped with a flue that combines at the center into a diagonally set brick stack with four chimney cans. There are two bipartite windows on the northwest and southeast elevations, and two doors on the southwest and northeast elevations. This block also features similar polychrome brick banding, a slate roof, and a stack positioned above a louvred apex vent.
