Description
The Hugh Miller Institute, located on Church Street in Cromarty, was designed by Ross and Macbeth and built between 1903 and 1904. This single-storey building features three bays, with a shallow recessed central bay that contains a doorway. The central bay is connected to the flanking wings by a continuous parapet that is adorned with stone urns. The structure is constructed of rubble, with rusticated quoins and polished ashlar dressings. The doorway is segmental and keyblocked, flanked by similar sidelights and topped with a shaped pediment. The flanking wings have bipartite windows with curved lights above them. The building is capped with a hipped slate roof that has wooden finials.
