Description
Aberarder House is a mid to late 17th century single-storey and attic rectangular house with four bays. The original structure dates from the later 17th century and was remodeled in the later 19th century. It is built of harled rubble with ashlar margins and features irregular fenestration with chamfered window margins. There is an early 19th century tripartite window in the east gable, and four later 19th century gabled dormers rise from the wallhead, along with a single similar dormer at the rear. The glazing includes both 4-pane and 12-pane windows. The house has one end stack and a large ridge stack, both with shaped copes. Small single-storey wings project from the east and west gables, creating a shallow U-plan court. These wings were formerly connected to a later house by a corridor that projects from the central entrance, which was added in the later 19th century. The roofs are gabled and piended, covered with slate.
