Description
Dunnet Parish Church is a simple T-plan church that may have a core dating back to before the Reformation. It features a north aisle added in 1837 and a two-storey tower at the west gable, likely from the 17th or early 18th century. The exterior is harled, with an entrance located at the base of the tower, which also has a small ground floor window in the center of the west elevation and several small vents on the first floor. The church has a saddleback roof running east to west.
On the south elevation of the main body of the church, there are four long narrow windows, along with a smaller, later window that lights the Minister's room on the left. The north aisle has similar narrow windows. The glazing is multi-pane, and the roofs are covered with slate.
Inside, the church has a plain interior featuring a pulpit with an upholstered buttoned back-board located in the center of the south wall. The aisles are filled with plain box pews from 1837 that are slightly raked. There is a wheel stair in the tower and a memorial in the entrance dedicated to Rev. Timothy Pont, who was the Minister of Dunnet from 1601 to 1610.
The burial ground surrounding the church is enclosed by roughly coped rubble walls and contains tombs that date from the 17th to the 20th centuries.
