Description
Borrodale Viaduct, opened in 1901, is a high and wide single span massed concrete structure. It features a single concrete arch ring with rusticated detailing and a rubble parapet that has crenellation. The viaduct is flanked by rubble bridges that oversail the path on each side of Borrodale Burn, each with dressed rubble arch rings and crenellated parapets. All parapets are topped with concrete copings. A long, high approach causeway carries the track to the north. A continuous string course connects the rubble and concrete masonry. The centre span measures 127 feet 6 inches (38.9 meters) and is flanked by spans of 20 feet (6.1 meters).
